The principles he promotes come from the Bible, proving that ethical standards can work in any area of leadership — church, business, or government. That is why the Apostle Paul’s advice proved so valuable out on a raging sea. On their way from Caesarea to Rome, their ship ran into a vicious storm. When they started out, officers ignored Paul’s warning that the trip was risky and would endanger their lives. But once they were in the midst of a raging storm and at their wits end, they listened to Paul. Suddenly, they respected his leadership. Here are his words from Acts 27, “Men, you should have listened to me in the first place and not left Crete. You would have avoided all this damage and loss. But take courage! None of you will lose your lives, even though the ship will go down. For last night, an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, and he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you. So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said.” People of faith are often in leadership roles in our society. God calls us to offer the light of His word to those around us.
