Dr. Martin Luther King said, “A genuine leader is not a searcher of consensus but a molder of consensus. On some questions, cowardice asks, “Is it safe?” Expediency asks, “Is it prudent?” Vanity asks, “Is it popular? But conscience asks, “Is it right?” Dr. King said there comes a time when one must take a position that is not safe, prudent, nor popular; but one must take it because conscience tells him it is right.” Our Lord was the model for this attitude. The Apostle John tells us that despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most people still did not believe in him; but their unbelief did not sway Jesus in the slightest, because He knew who He was, whose He was, and why He had come. We read this in John Ch. 12, “Jesus shouted to the crowds, ‘If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark. I will not judge those who hear me but don’t obey me, for I have come to save the world and not to judge it. But all who reject me and my message will be judged on the day of judgment by the truth I have spoken.” Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the one we should follow, trust, and obey.
