Boulder, Colorado, boasts of having the most accurate clock in the world. It’s an atomic timepiece. Experts say it is accurate to one second in 3.7 billion years! You can be sure other clocks set their time by this one. In a similar way, wise people look for a reliable guide to give their lives purpose. In a letter to the Ephesians, the Apostle Paul tells us that God offers Himself to be that Guide. God even gave us a guidebook and His Son to bridge the gulf our sins had erected between God and us. For all who accept His Son as their Savior, God gives His Holy Spirit to live inside of us. His Spirit within us is available to guide us all through life. That is why Paul could urge believers (Eph. 5), “Be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making melody to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Believers have God’s Spirit within us. When we submit to Him, He will help us live purpose-filled lives.
