Chuck Colson, who founded Prison Fellowship, once said about social justice: “Without ultimate justice, people’s sense of moral obligation dissolves. Social bonds are broken. People who have no fear of God soon have no fear of man, and no respect for human laws and authority.” Colson’s view of justice reflects what God told the ancient prophet to tell his people. In Zechariah Chapter 11, we read, “This is what the LORD of Heavens’ Armies says: Judge fairly, and show mercy and kindness to one another. Do not oppress widows, orphans, and the poor. And do not scheme against each other. Your ancestors refused to listen to this message. They made their hearts as hard as stone, so they could not hear the instructions, or the messages that the LORD of Heaven’s Armies had sent them by his Spirit. That is why the LORD of Heaven’s Armies was so angry with them. Since they refused to listen when I called them, I would not listen when they called to me, says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.’” God told His ancient people to treat others with true justice; to be merciful and loving in all their affairs; to never oppress widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor; and never scheme to exploit the weak and helpless. God wants us today to behave the same way.

I just found a station on the radio about urban faith. I have a question that has really been eating at me I can not understand how in the during the civil rights movement how people fought and died for equality and the treatment of black people and any white person that supported them was horrible. I personally don’t know anything but from text books and portrayal in movies and I would probally be dead myself had I lived during that time because I don’t believe in that type of treatment. To get to my point though is that it breaks my heart everytimg I hear of another child usually black in my community that has been killed by gang trouble. What happened where are these same people that fought for their rights are not doing this for their children saving their children I know this is not what they wanted for them for their future. I know a lady that is 98 years old that was turned away everytime she went to vote that marched for her right to until she could and lost a son in Vietnam and said that if she had know that her people were going to turn out this way she would not have marched. That is so sad because the treatment was horrible for her. The fear of standing of for the youth today can not be worse that it was then why wont people rally for this?
