This tested saint said about God and his promises: “God does not give us everything we want, but He does fulfill his promises … leading us along the best and straightest paths to himself?” Long ago, Joshua affirmed God’s faithfulness to keep the promise He made to Abram. According to Genesis 15:18, God made this promise to Abraham: “To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates.” Hundreds of years later, after Abraham’s descendants had conquered the Promised Land, Joshua records these words found in chapter 21 of his book: “The LORD gave to Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. And the LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had solemnly promised their ancestors. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the LORD helped them conquer all their enemies. Not a single one of all the good promises the LORD had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he has spoken came true.” God’s reliability in keeping those promises gives us confidence that God will fulfill every vow He has made to us. This includes His promise to give eternal life to every person who accepts His Son as his or her Savior.
