Alan Woods said, “It never ceases to amaze me when God wants to take someone to the next level in their life, that they let fear of the unknown rob them of tremendous blessings.” He says Christians have two common problems: “They are scared to death of being truly free, and unaware of God’s overwhelming love.” When Jacob left home, running from his brother Esau, he faced an unknown future. At sundown, he found a place to set up camp, lie down, and then fell asleep. In a dream, the Lord spoke to him. Among the things God said was this: “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! All families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. What’s more, I am with you and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.” Jacob now had God’s promise of protection and blessing as he faced the unknown. Since Christ came, died for our sins to establish the New Covenant, He now promises never to leave us nor forsake us. Our challenge is to accept Him and rest in this precious promise Christ has made to us.
