If one tree gets water and sunlight, and another gets none, the tree with nutrients shares with ones that need it. Among the petitions Jesus made to His Father in His high priestly prayer was this one. He prayed that we would be one, and love one another and show it by the way we care for each other. In this way, unbelievers would take notice and believe in Him. Here are His words from John Ch. 17: “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe that you sent me. I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.” By His death and resurrection, Jesus created unity among those who accept Him by faith. We have the same Father, same Savior, same Spirit, same mission to foster justice and morality in our world. We await the same destiny of eternity with Christ. Since we have all this unity in Christ, why in the world don’t we love like it?
