When President Obama announced that he now supports same-sex marriage, he cited his Christian faith as the reason for his “evolving” views. Yet for many other Christians, their commitment to Jesus Christ and an orthodox view of the Bible is the reason why they reject homosexuality as a valid lifestyle.
In a report on NPR’s Morning Edition, Dallas preacher and bestselling author Tony Evans said the issue is especially intense in African American churches. “The breakdown of the family is the single greatest challenge that we face today,” said Evans, which is why he believes black pastors are often the most outspoken opponents of same-sex marriage.
NPR religion correspondent Barbara Bradley Hagerty then asked Evans about the argument that same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue like race, but Evans wasn’t having it. “The issue of race is not an issue of choice. It’s an issue of birth,” he said.
When Hagerty asked Evans whether he believes homosexuality is a choice, he replied: “The Bible is clear on that one too. And that is, sexual relationships are to be between men and women within the context of marriage. That’s not only related to the issue of homosexuality, but adultery, or fornication or bestiality. All of that is proscribed in the Bible.”
Read and listen to the entire report here.
Eaquality in all its forms is a human rights issue. He does not have to like it, but Mr. Evans has no standing to tell other people what to do. He can suggest and cajole, but he cannot use the law to enforce his stupid prejudices. Maybe in North Korea that would be tolerated, but it has no place in the USA.
So I guess instead of CHOOSING to make my living on a nurse’s salary, a law should be passed that I should equally have as much money as Bill Gates. It’s my human right isn’t it? My personal choice shouldn’t matter? No better yet, I should choose to not work at all yet expect to be equally paid as someone who does…equality and human rights go hand in hand in all forms right? Pastor Evans is not prejudiced
civil rights, plural of civ·il rights: Noun. The rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality
That would be POLITICAL and SOCIAL freedom. Not monetary. Get a dictionary.
Mr. Edison, where has Pastor Evans used the law to enforce his position on gay marriage? He was asked the question and he gave the answer.
I agree, he was ask a question and he answered.
Marriage was ordained by God between a man & a woman. Anything else is perversion and detestable before God.
His stupid so called prejudices were clearly remarked as what the scriptures say! So it comes down to Do you accept the mainstream media or Gods word? As for me ill Choose Gods word!
How dare you tell Tony Evans what to do! Didn’t you just say he has no right to tell other people what to do? Are you telling Tony Evans what to do while at the same time arguing we shouldn’t tell other people what to do? I am very confused.
I don’t believe that Tony Evans is prejudice.I praise God that someone is speaking out on marriage and do not care what others think. If we don’t stand up to what God’s word say, then we are just as guilty as to those who don’t stand up for God’s word.God gave us all a choice on how to live our life.If we don’t stand by God’s word, then we fail God.It is time to stand up on our believes and don’t worry what others will think, because one day,we all will stand accountable for what we do here on earth.I thank God for Tony Evans and my prayers go out to him,his family, and his church.
Mark Tilotta: nobody is telling you that you can’t believe what you want to believe, or that Tony Evans can’t publicly express his opinion. What we’re asking is that you don’t force others to believe what you believe.
If you disagree with same-sex marriage, fine; we support that, and don’t expect you to enter into a same-sex marriage. Please don’t try to make me, or others with a different belief system, to live by your rules.
As you say: one day, we all will stand accountable for what we do here on earth. If someone chooses to marry another of the same sex, they will face the consequences ON THAT DAY. It is not your responsibility to be both judge and avenging angel. Leave that to God.
So according to homosexuals, if a person oppose gay marriage, then we aren’t suppose to marry one? The stupidest response ever. I mean lame. Straight people don’t harbor longings to marry a gay person because we oppose gay marriage. LOGIC FAIL by the gays once again. And just as YAH judged Sodom and Gomorrah, the gay community will receive the same judgment ON THAT TERRIBLE DAY.
Amen to that! Tony Evans was called to preach the word of God and stand for what he believes. One day he will have to stand in front of God and not in front of the media.
Clearly, you are not a Christian and know nothing about the word of God. This dear pastor is telling you what God said and trying to keep you out of Hell. Sin is sin and you cannot change that because you don’t happen to believe it.
we are all GODS children. Now go tell that
Hi charlene..this is a mistruth that the enemy of our soul wants people to believe…we are not all God’s children. We are all God’s creation, but the bible tells us unless a man is born again (that’s when we become His child, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
in John 8:44 the Bible tells us..”You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
in love…flo
civil rights, plural of civ·il rights: Noun. The rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality
Gee look, I debunked their whole argument using the dictionary and facts. Tadaa! Easy. They want social freedom and equality in their marriages. That would make it a Civil Rights issue, wouldn’t it? I cannot believe there are people dumb enough to even make the argument that this isn’t a Civil Rights issue. I wish some people would just pick up a dictionary.
This question wasn’t whether it was a civil rights issue, it was whether is was a civil rights issue LIKE race. And Mr. Evans answered the comparative question by comparing race, which is not a choice and homosexuality, which is..
He isn’t forcing his opinion he is being faithful to his worldview and ethics. How come it is ok for an evolutionist or atheist to do so but not a faithful christian man?
Max. The good pastor is correct concerning what God and Christ say about the sin of homosexuality. a preverse sexual act as homosexuality is not “not” a civil right. They were born either Male or Female, their lifestyle is a choice each makes.
People, it’s time.
Like my son told me when he was about 25 years old, “Let them get married! They’ll end up getting divorced just like everybody else.”
Everybody has to choose what they will do, and then face Jesus when he returns. We can’t be so bothered about somebody else’s choices. We better be bothered about our OWN choices.
Jesus told us to remove the LOG CABIN in our own eye so we can actually SEE, in order to help somebody remove the mote in their eye. In other words, if you try to stop people from living their lives as they believe, then its a human rights issue. They are human, and they have rights. If they are wrong, then they’ll find out at the judgement. And so will you and I.
Jesus hated and still hates oppression.
Jesus also hates sin.
That is true Mr. Sutton, however, Jesus never hated the sinner. There are five questions that African America Bishops, Pastors and congregations need to be focus on:
1. What if the Republican Party wins the White House, Senate and House and they end the social programs such as Medicaid, SNAP (FoodStamps), Reduce Medicare, reduce or end funding for the Public School. Is the Church ready to take care these People?
2. How is Pastors or Bishops going to handle the enormous outcry from their congregation when the church financial take is 90% less each Sunday because many of their members are unemployed and not receiving benefits because of the Republican Party has ended Unemployment benefits?
3. How is the Pastors or Bishops going to handle the enormous request for food assistance on a monthly basis, from their congregation when the Republican Party ends all SNAP (Food Stamps) benefits?
4. How is the Pastors or Bishops going to handle the great cry regarding the overwhelming sickness that will fall upon the children and the elderly because the Republican Party ended Medicaid for the children and reduced or ended Medicare for the seniors?
5. How is the Pastors or Bishops going to handle the increased number of homeless families in their congregation, when their members lost their income, homes, employment, health insurance?
All this will happen to many people in this country base on Pastors and Bishops deciding to stand against what the Presdient believe and not vote or vote for the Republican Party. The Republican Party has laid out their plans and we as African Americans are doing exactly what they wanted you to do……. Divide ourselves!
The church already takes care of those who the government helps, but it is not enough. I volunteer with a church ministry that helps those financially and 93% of those who ask for help are already receiving welfare or some other type of government assistance, including unemployment! And most of these are because they have made bad choices, such as going out and buying a car when on unemployment. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090127233347AAE83UR The problem is not the Republican party or the Democratic party. It is those who choose to live off the generosity of others and then are indignant when they can no longer help and it is those who think that government can’t possibly run out of money. Welfare was a good idea gone very wrong. There are those who genuinely need the help, but there are too many more that abuse it and use it as an excuse not to work or refuse to try to improve their own circumstances. Basically the problem lies with the lazy and entitled mindset that has taken over our society. By the way, if we have the money we help what we can, even if it because of bad choices.
What does gay marriage have to do with the breakdown of the family? I have never understood that argument/
How can two men or two women be fruitful and multiply as God commanded?? A “family” does not consist of two moms or two dads. Dad, Mom and kids! Each character has a role that has been cast by God. A woman can’t play the man’s role and vice versa. Imagine a football team with eleven quarterbacks. Not gonna get much done. Same principle applies to families.
AMEN Dr. Evans! God Bless You for stepping up and making a stand for God & His righteousness.
If you took 3 couples (one heterosexual, one lesbian, one homosexual) and placed them on 3 separate deSerted islands, then came back 100 years later… What would you find? That is why it has to do with breaking down the family, that is why it is satanic. There is no life in homosexual union.
LL, your argument has no logical basis. Because a couple cannot reproduce (produce life) it is somehow invalid? I think if you stopped for a second and thought about that you’d see the fallacy of your position. If the ability to reproduce is your primary prerequisite for parenting then infertile couples are unfit to be parents. In addition, a family born of heterosexual parents is perfectly capable of disfunction. As they say: You need a license to drive, to fish, and to own a dog, but any a-hole can have a child.
I can’t stand the misuse of that Bible verse…Jesus said to examine yourself to be sure you are not committing the same sin before you confront a fellow believer with his sin. This is so that you can see clearly to remove the speck from his eye. It is about heart attitude. Jesus said, “Judge not, lest ye be judged.”which is reminding us of the same truth. It does not mean never judge, it means don’t be a hypocrate. Jesus also said we would be known by our fruit, and a good tree cannot produce bad fruit. The bad tree with bad fruit is destined for the furnace! We must lovingly urge repentance!
As Christians we have the right in this country to express our opinion on culture, as well as vote our consciences…as directed by the Holy Spirit. We also have an obligation to judge our brothers and sisters in Christ, not to be judgmental, but in order to be accountable to each other, and help each other stay the course.
This passage written by the Apostle Paul also clarifies how we should deal with non-believers vs believers;
1 Corinthians 5:9-13 (NIV84)
9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
How many churches today are practicing this? It’s difficult, but necessary.
Praise the Lord for your standing for Truth…..Dr Evans, that is the Only thing that can truly set people free.
Dr.Evans I understand the conundrum that you are faced with. Human rights, civil rights and religion are a very potent mix, but let’s not forget that the bible was used to suppress human and civil right to blacks for 500 years. On your faith you have every right to take a stand on which you religion demands, however because we live in a participatory democracy it something that you have to reconcile that your views are in opposition and obstructs the civil life of others. We can cite choice, but some say it not, what I think would help take away from this issue is that science is saying that animals exposure to chemicals changes their sexual orientation. See TED talk at this link for more info about sex and toxic chemicals. (Tyrone Hayes + Penelope Jagessar Chaffer: The toxic baby?
http://www.ted.com/talks/tyrone_hayes_penelope_jagessar_chaffer_the_toxic_baby.html) You may not like it but something is heralding this change and it behooves you to find out what is behind it, rather than stand on the issue and grandstand by saying “not on my watch”. I understand that Americans are having a difficult time adjusting to creation of stable families in the traditional sense, but I would offer you perhaps a more reasoned approach to these changes taking place during our life time. Because we are part of a community that is literally falling apart at the social seams, we need to find a way to heal the rend in the fabric rather than tearing it further apart.
Indeed we need pastors who are taking upon themselves to reach outside of their disciplines and find more enlightened way of approaching controversy. Yours in Reason

Homosexuals do not believe or call what they are doing a “sin” just like Christians “born again, evangelical, or just plain Christians” who divorce and remarry or non-Christians who divorce and remarry label what they are doing “sinning”. Divorced people who remarry are recognized and given the same civil rights as those who remain single or marry. These same civil rights must be afforded to all, even though those Bible believing do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do “divorced-remarried” or “living-together-shacking-up” or “having sex without the benefit of marriage” Christians say otherwise. Newt Gingrich, who happens to be opposed to same sex marriage because of his religious beliefs, has been married and divorce three times – according to the scriptures he is sinning big time! I’m just saying…Let him without sin “whether you call it a sin or not” – cast the first stone!
The Preacher’s Daughter (Author of “Negroes, Flies and Wet Toilet Paper; Confessions of the Preacher’s Daughter: Losing My Religion and Finding God)
But that is not finger pointing, or as to say Christians are not wrong.
Doesn’t matter who’s wrong are right. The word teaches us about what “JESUS’ taught said
and did. God loves us all! but when we sin he hates that, remember you don’t worry about
what the next person is doing . Our job is to win as many souls as we can for the kingdom.

Grace and Peace to all at Urban Faith,
I am going to try to make this as plan as possible. For those who are trying to exegesis scripture and don’t know the content or the context of the scripture, please stop quoting. For instance – 1 Corinthians, Chapter 5 was written to the Church of Corinth because of disorder in the church. It was not written to the population of Corinth. Apostle Paul Condemns immorality in the Church because of all of the immoral actions they were allowing in the church. Now, to explain the word Immoral, in accordance with biblical teachings it is referencing to all 667 sins listed in the bible. Especially the 42 Death Penalty Sins which cause Sodom and Gomorrah to be destroyed and by the way, The United States is committing the same 42 Death Penalty Sin as Sodom and Gomorrah did in bibilical times.
Now, I digress, Christians, including Rev. Dr. Tony Evans, need to be particularly careful of condemning this President, because if you are going to condemn him on this issue and refuse to vote for him or choose to vote for the Republican party, then you are being hypocritical. Please think back on any President you voted for that did not commit (Immoral) sin. Christians do not have the right to elavate a particular sin to benefit there purpose – (hint – Pharisees). Sin is Sin! There is no great sin, there is just sin in the sight of the Lord. So, If Christians really want to send a message, sent this to yourself – “All have sinned and come short to the glory of God.”
To God be the Glory

I am not for same sex marriage. There is one thing we a black people, our right to choose was taken from us some time ago. Was that a right to choose as is for the Homosexuals or Choice that people make for their lives. Our president is a president for all the people and please remember that Government is based on the constitution and not the Bible. We all as human being should have a right to choose whatever we believe in.
This idiot needs to read the Loving v. Virginia ruling – which made it UNCONSTITUTIONAL to ban white and blacks from marrying – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loving_v._Virginia. In that ruling – the justices agreed that “Marriage is one of the “basic civil rights of man,”
QUIT BRINGING YOUR FAITH INTO MY LIFE!
Just hang tight, David. I’ve just dispatched someone to unchain you from your computer, TV, radio and i-phone. Once you’re freed I’m having all of these electronic devises destroyed. They will also be burning any newspapers, books, magazines or any other printed materials in your home and around your property. Then they will build a 50 foot high, 4 foot wide, electrified, titanium wall, surrounded by amote filled with 20 foot alligators around your home. That way you won’t be forced to listen to anyone elses opinion. I hope this makes you feel better.
Quit equating sexually deviant lifestyle with race because they’re not the same and never will be. Interracial marriage is not the same thing as same sex marriage. learn the difference. My blackness is not the same as sinful sexual deviancy as a sodomite. YAH was clear.
First Corinthians 1: 18-19, For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19) For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate. Prov. 22: 4, Humility and the fear of the Lord bring wealth and honor and life. (The fool has said in his heart there is no God).
“Religious freedom” seems to be often defined as “freedom for me to make others live by my religion.”
While pastors are preaching against same-sex marriage, shouldn’t they also be preaching in favor of stoning disobedient sons to death and executing anyone who wears wool-blend clothing? Or do they just pick and choose the portions of the Bible that support their own prejudices and bigotry?
If the purpose of marriage is to be fruitful and multiply, shouldn’t infertile men and women be prohibited from marrying?
“He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Otherwise, let’s leave the judging to God. He will take care of business in his own time.
Please, don’t give your self a headache trying to understand scriptures that are closed to your unbelieving heart. attend a Bible study in your area if you need the answers to your biblical questions. And infertile couples can either adopt a child or hire a surrogate that can carry the chief. You know how reproduction works, BETWEEN A MAN AND WOMAN, not through same sex relations.
And again, Christians and believers if YAH word are commanded to spread the word, not be censored because people like you don’t want to hear the truth. Freedom of Religion works that way.
Child. Censor.
“Or do they just pick and choose the portions of the Bible that support their own prejudices and bigotry?”
No one picked this battle, the homosexuals and their enablers (like you) picked it for us by being as militant as you are and by throwing what was once your own private relationships ans private affairs into everyone’s faces. You and your enablers (assuming you’re gay) continue to harras anyone who disagrees with your position that your relationships should be celebrated.
God has never called Christians to establish a physical kingdom ruled by His laws, commands, and statutes. The mission of Christians is to share the Gospel of salvation with the whole world (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). When people are saved, the Holy Spirit will begin the work in them of changing their lives into conformity with God’s Word (Philippians 1:6; 1 Thessalonians 2:13). It is only when a society or culture is populated with born again Christians that the society is changed, one heart and one life at a time. That is why Christ put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:24-26; Ephesians 2:15) and instead instituted the law of Christ (Matthew 22:37-40; Galatians 6:2). The law of love and grace is what is needed in the hearts of men who, once their hearts are changed, can corporately effect change in their society.
Attempts to change societies and cultures from without will always fail. Changing people on the inside is God’s work through His Holy Spirit, and therefore no one can be forced into the kingdom. God is more interested in saving people’s souls than He is in forcing people to obey His laws. For an unsaved person to obey God’s law, he would be doing it out of fear and obligation. God wants a person to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9) and then to obey His commands out of reverence and love (1 John 5:3). So the answer to your question is no. God has not called us to enforce His commands on an unredeemed world. Rather, he has called us to proclaim the message of salvation—the redeeming power and life-transforming message of Jesus’ death on the cross (Romans 5:8).
So…question,…why are you trying to force people to conform to what you believe is God’s will? If you disagree with gay marriage… don’t be in one.
Oh my Jenna, I am a growing Christian, and have been having a lot of confusion. You can not
understand that the verses you wrote of and I read every one helped me so much. My heart aches of what God’s world has become. My question just this morning was someone is right and someone is wrong. And you answered that or should I say threw you God spoke to me.
Thank you so much for being the salt and the light to me.
We live in a democratic republic which requires our participation in order to work as it was intended. This participation does include the input of those of us that are Christians. To say otherwise is unAmerican. To voice ones opinion and attempt to steer our society to what we believe is right is our obligation and a privilege of living in this great country. These days Christians are often told to keep their views to themselves. It was not this way when our largely Christian founding fathers birthed this nation. Christians should express their views and vote according to their values freely. God Bless America!
Yes. Dr Evans is right, that civil rights issue is of birth not the issue of choice. And i am a black man. I belive that gays are taking a ride on the back of civil rights.
Thanks to everyone for participating in this discussion. Honestly, I am not completely sure of where I stand on this issue and what it means for this election. But I must tell you that Jenna’s comments are among those that really struck a chord with me. I am interested in hearing what other people think of Jenna’s comments.
My Faith tells me, “Hate the Sin, Love the sinner.”
As a financial planner I can see so many opportunities to enhance the financial security of my clients future. Grand father marrying Grandchild. Avoiding estate tax, inheritance tax, stepped up cost bais, providing healthcare benefits. Brothers marrying each other. The possibilities are endless. Where do you draw the line? No civil union will be denied.
I totally agree with Jenna’s comment. She has effectively honed in on the core of the issue. As Christians our job is to establish God’s kingdom here on earth. The work of establishing a “Kingdom Culture” starts from within. To Jenna’s point, God has called us to point the unsaved toward Him and He will do the rest. In fact, that was the point of God coming to Earth in human form. The God of the OT was harsh and passed judgment swiftly. But one could argue, that when He came to earth as a man He softened (not compromised) His approach. Jesus was our example. He did not condemn, judge, or cast down those who did not know Him. Like Jesus, it is not our job to condemn or quote religious edicts to those with whom we don’t share the same opinions, lifestyle, or attitudes; rather, we are called to be a light in the midst of darkness and offer up God’s redeeming grace and love in a sinful world.
Consider this, wasn’t it Jesus Himself who ministered to the Samaritan woman at the well and then proceeded to offer her the opportunity to change her life and drink from a “living” well (John 4)? Wasn’t it Jesus who sat at the table and ate with sinners and proceeded to rebuke the Pharisees when they asked Him why He would do such a thing (Matthew 9:10-11)? Was it not Jesus who invited Himself to Zacchaeus’ home for dinner and then called him a “Son of Abraham” and saved him and his entire household right there on the spot (Luke 19:1-10)!
The point is, YES, the Bible is clear that same sex marriage is an abomination. However, as Christians, the question you need to ask yourself–is that reason enough to condemn the person involved in the lifestyle? Thus, effectively killing any opportunity to do the one thing that the Bible explicitly calls all Christians to do–WIN SOULS FOR CHRIST? Perhaps there is a tendency for all of us to exclude those who don’t have the same lifestyle as us, or the same moral standards, but ask yourself who did Jesus consider to be a good prospect? The woman at the well, the sinners at dinner, Zacchaeus, the woman with the issue of blood, and countless others in the Bible all had some type of infirmity or disfunction as they approached Christ. Yet Jesus did not turn them away. He took the time to speak to them and “show” them a better way.
All too often many Christians are guilty of condemning another’s lifestyle in the name of Jesus or quoting scripture to support their personal agenda. But that is NOT what Jesus did! Truth be told, there is a scripture in the Bible that refutes any sin one can think of-but that’s not the point! Instead of condemning or judging their lifestyle, Jesus saw the potential for what they “could” be. He spoke words that went to the core of their being and then proceeded to offer them a way out of their present condition. Who, then, are we to pass judgement on the ills of same sex marriage or even hetro-sexual marriage for that matter?
Personally, as a Christian, I don’t believe in same sex marriage. However, neither do I believe in fornication, adultery, killing, stealing, or lying. In my view, this issue is neither a political, a human rights or a civil rights issue–it’s spiritual. In Luke 14:12-14 Jesus admonishes us to invite all sinners to the table to eat. In fact, the Luke passage says NOT to invite your family and friends to the table. I wonder why? Could it be because those of us in the “family” who already know Christ have a tendency to judge and condemn the actions/lifestyles of those who don’t know Him? Could it be that Jesus was saying that when you invite guest to sit at His table you are free to be “who” you are and He didn’t want the condemnation of their lifestyle by others at the table to “hinder” them from seeing the feast that was laid before them?
Jesus laid out the plan in the Bible for us to follow. There are many things in our society/culture that the Bible speaks against–same sex marriage is simply the “hot button” issue of the day. In order to change society, to establish a Kingdom Culture, take your cues from Jesus. Jesus hated the sin, yet He loved the sinner. He treated people with love, compassion, and kindness. He held out his hand and said come follow me!
There are many ills and maladies that face today’s society it seems that before one is effectively dealt with and brought under control here comes another. There are those who want to blindly sweep the lbgt situation under the rug as if there is nothing out of the ordinary is happening, we have more important issues to deal with they say, gang violence, drugs, hiv, aids poverty, etc.,etc., etc., to think one issue is more important than the other is to operate in a state of delusion there is a devil loose ,the only one that has authority and power to handle the devil is Almighty God he has expressly explained in his
word that 2 Chronicles 7:14- IF MY PEOPLE who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray, seek my face turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and heal the land , Do you belong to God? , God knows them that are his in the general sense everything belongs to God,I’m not talking about in general, because the promise is made to MY PEOPLE There may have been a time when you gave yourself to whole heartily to God but where do you stand stand now?It is important to note and observe that a person that does not pray is not truly humbled,a person that does not humble themselves and pray cannot seek God’s face, someone who does not seek the face of God will not and cannot turn from their wicked ways here we find in 2 chronicles that tells us that if we meet God’s 4 conditions he will forgive and he will heal if you harden not your heart.
Amen to everything Jenna said!
I believe our elections are being soley based on two issues, same sex marriages and abortions. Bush was elected based on his views of the two agendas and won the election because Christians came out and voted based soley on these issues. However once elected, what became on the two issues, very little or maybe even nothing, but what evolved out of his becoming president is a greed not seen in the White House in decades. A greed that destroyed lives and continues to destroy lives. I was once told by my pastor that in God’s eyes, sin is sin and because of that in my eyes I may feel my life is better than let’s say Hitlers, but compared to Jesus, who is the standard set by God, there is no difference…I am a sinner. So where do we make the comparison when it comes to sin:… greed, homosexuality, murder, abortion, lust, hate. This is why I believe voting on a president based on the issues of gay marriage and abortion can become a sin in itself when that issue is put above voting for a Christian as apposed to a nonChristian. Would someone please explain the Book of Mormons to me….let me decide if I am voting for a man who believes in Christ and is putting the constitution in its place as government or a man who does not believe in Christ and speaks only with mouth to get elected. Since this election is becoming one of what is the biggest sin or sinner, lets put all cards on the table.
Dr Evans, I do not embrace any form of homosexuality, i am a christian. However i have a problem with some preachers. Jesus preached iove every where he went. Love covers a multitude of sin. Listening to some prachers they would like to make a bonfire and burn these people. Who are you or me to do this. God hates sin and love sinners. If we would preach love and less hate from the pulpit many of these gays could get save, It is God who transform lives. Remember the bible says we were like dogs and sorcerers, but for the grace of God. If it had not been for God’s grace where would be you me our children and grandchildren be. Preach sin and show love to these people
I have many gay friends, gay family members as well and I LOVE them all to life! That does not mean I agree with their lifestyle. I still show them Gods love because my love stinks. As Christians we should always show Gods love to everyone including our gay brothers and sisters. We are to allow Gods word to change them from the inside out. Not our words because man will always fail me, but Gods word will never fail me and I don’t expect it to fail me. Let them live their gay lifestyle, but at the same time show them who your God is through you.
It is clear we are a country divided on this issue. Culture tells us “live however you like” that goes with with words of the serpent in the Garden of Eden “you shall not surely die”, yet we bring spiritual death upon us when we take a bite of what culture is trying to convince us. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord. I thank God for Tony Evans not silencing on his Faith.
TODAY I THANK GOD THAT THERE ARE STILL BIBLE BELIEVING CHRISTIANS IN THE U S.HERE IN NIGERIA, WHEN WE HEAR OF THE U S,WE THINK OF ALL KINDS OF CORRUPT THINGS YOU ARE EXPORTING TO THE REST OF THE WORLD. PLS DR EVANS KEEP ON STANDING BY THE WORD OF GOD
For those concerned God created marriage. The first marriage was between a man and a woman. And not between two men or two women! Those of you who think the gay lifestyle is OK hasn’t read God’s option on the matter. Sin in any language is still called sin. So don’t get mad at Tony Evans for speaking the truth.
IF YOU BELIEVE IN GOD AND JESUS CHRIST, THEN YOU BELIEVE WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES US. WE CAN’T PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT COMMANDMENTS TO FOLLOW. IT’S ALL OR NOTHING. HOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN AND THEY’RE BORN THAT WAY. BUT, IT’S NOT REALISTIC TO THINK THEY CAN ALL CHANGE. INSTEAD, ACCEPT WHAT THEY ARE AND PRAY FOR THEIR SOULS. WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE? ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE AND WE ARE CERTAINLY NOT GOD. IF JESUS COULD FORGIVE A PROSTITUTE, THEN WE SHOULD FORGIVE HOMOSEXUALS. WE AS CHRISTIANS LEARN TO FORGIVE MURDERERS, RAPISTS, ADULTERERS, THIEVES, LIARS, AND ALL SINNERS. WHY NOT HOMOSEXUALS? ALL WE KNOW IS THAT THEY WILL GET GODS WRATH AFTER DEATH AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN. BUT, UNTIL THEN, WE SHOULD LOVE THEM AS OUR WAYWARD BROTHERS AND SISTERS. THAT SHOULD BE GOOD ENOUGH FOR US ALL. IT’S SORT OF A GRIN AND BARE IT KIND OF THING. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS WITH THEM GETTING MARRIED TO EACH OTHER. WHY CAN’T THEY CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE? LIKE “STATE PARTNERSHIP”. THIS WOULD ENTITLE GAY SPOUSES THE SAME BENEFITS THAT A HETERO MARRIAGE WOULD, EXCEPT ANY CONNECTION TO THE BIBLE AND CHRISTIANITY IN GENERAL. ANY NAME THAT DOESN’T COME FROM THE BIBLE WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE. . CALLING IT A MARRIAGE IS BLASPHEMOUS AND I PRAY THEY STOP CALLING IT THAT. THAT’S INSULTING OUR RELIGION. BUT, I DON’T CONDONE GAY PARTNERSHIPS AND THINK THEY ARE AN ABOMINATION , BUT, I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE BUT TO LOVE THY NEIGHBOR. HATRED IS A SIN AFTER ALL TOO.
Jesus said go and sin no more he said that many time. Love is not loss we all fall short and God is true when everyone else are liars….. but when the world view is accepted instead of God thats where the problem lyes. People are afraid to speak because the views of the world has tooken precedence over God himself the Alpha and Omega. People dont believe what they cant see and hold on to their rational thinking until something happens to shake it up. Tony Evans is being used by God to SHAKE it up . The world may not like it now but you can count on tje fact that every knee will bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord. So it is written so it shall be.
