Educators say a child’s personality is set by age 5. So they offer these tips to help nurture young children. Read to them; this increases their love for books. Let them help with simple chores. Let them learn to share by playing with other children. Be clear and consistent when you discipline them. Help them use correct words and phrases. Help them solve problems when they are upset. Give them simple choices to make. All this shows we value them and want to see them mature. When Jesus was here on earth, He placed high value on children. We read this in Luke 18: “One day some parents brought their little children to Jesus so he could touch and bless them. But when the disciples saw this, they scolded the parents for bothering him. Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’” Children are humble, dependent, trusting, open, and sincere. That’s why Jesus said unless we are humble like children, we will never enter His kingdom. That is also why the church must provide its best teachers and resources to nurture them while they are still young and impressionable.
