When three-year olds put their hands over their eyes, they think they are hiding from us, but we know better. Yet even some adults act as if God does not see them, since they can’t see God. They go through life either ignoring, or giving God little or no attention. That’s a tragic mistake. God chided his ancient people when they ignored His right to direct their lives and their nation. We learn from Isaiah Chapter 29 that the Assyrians had surrounded Jerusalem. God said He let it happen to break their pride and teach them humility. But He said after their pride is broken, he would deliver them from their enemies. Isaiah said they failed to understand and accept God’s plans because their hearts were hard. God said, ‘These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote. Because of this, the wisdom of the wise will pass away, and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear.” People who ignore God’s revealed truth and live as though God does not see them will have a rude awakening. God does see. He knows every detail of our thoughts and actions. Yet God’s perfect knowledge works for the good of those who know His Son—who love, and seek to do God’s will. For them, He makes all things work together for their good.
