A woman said her earthly father treated her so badly, she could not call God her Father. Of course, we know earthly parents are not always ideal; yet God reveals Himself as the perfect Father who cares deeply for His children. He never disappoints us. The author of Psalm 103 uses fatherhood to teach us about God as Father. He says, “The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. He knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone—as though we had never been here. But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commands!” He ends the psalm this way: “Let all that I am praise the LORD.” God not only gives life to every person who enters the world, but like ideal earthly fathers, He protects, nurtures, and provides for His children. When Jesus came into the world, He taught us to call God our heavenly Father. We can do that because when we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, God’s Spirit causes us to be born into God’s family. As God’s child, we can bring our heavenly Father all our concerns and know that He cares for us.
