All the Sharks rejected him, but a man who saw the show later called him and gave him the money. That investment quickly grew his business from $30,000 to $6 million. The Sharks had rejected a good deal. When Jesus presented Himself as the Messiah, the religious leaders rejected Him, but their loss was far greater than the Sharks’ loss. In explaining to His disciples why the religious crowd refused to accept Him, Jesus quoted Psalm 118:22. The psalmist, perhaps referring to a local king but also to the Messiah’s future rejection said, “The stone the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” The cornerstone was extremely important in well-built structures. It aligned the walls and gave stability to the entire building. In Jesus’ day, religious leaders rejected Him as God’s Messiah. But after He died on the cross and rose again, God declared that His Son is now Ruler over heaven and earth. The psalmist, knowing that the day of Messiah’s victory was coming, said, “This is the LORD’S doing and it is wonderful to see.” Followers of Christ rejoice that they did not reject Jesus and pass up a good deal.
