He says, “God’s word generates life, creates faith, produces change, frightens the devil, causes miracles, heals hurts, builds character, transforms circumstances, imparts joy, overcomes adversity, defeats temptation, infuses hope, releases power, cleanses our minds, brings things into being, and guarantees our future forever!” The author of Psalm 89 stressed the power and reliability of God’s word when he quoted God’s everlasting, unconditional promise to David. God said of David, “I will make him my firstborn son, the mightiest king on earth. I will love him and be kind to him forever; my covenant with him will never end. I will preserve an heir for him; his throne will be as endless as the days of the heaven.” Of course, we know that King David died as all of us do. But he had a descendant, a son. They called him Jesus. He was born by God’s Spirit to a virgin. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, died on a cross, but rose again. Today He lives in heaven and in the hearts of all who choose to accept Him as their Savior. One day, He will return and fulfill the promise God made to David that his kingdom will never pass away. Until then, He invites us to accept Him as our King and serve this present age until He comes again.
