It’s not that men are reluctant to admit doing wrong or take responsibility. They just don’t think they have done anything to say “I’m sorry” about. Could that explain why fewer men attend church—they don’t think they need God’s grace and mercy? That was not true for God’s servant, Ezra about whom we read in Ezra 9. There Ezra says, “I fell to my knees and lifted my hands to the Lord my God. I prayed, “O my God, I am utterly ashamed, I blush to lift up my face to you. For our sins are piled higher than our heads and our guilt has reached to the heavens.”. . . God looks for humility. Here is what God said through Isaiah 57:15, “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirit are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.” Humility, confession, and repentance are prerequisites for receiving God’s grace, mercy, and blessings. Even though God may permit arrogant people to flourish for a while, He reserves His best and enduring blessings for those who admit their faults and humbly come to him by faith in His Son.
