He jokingly told her, “Superman doesn’t need to fasten his seatbelt.” She replied, “But superman does not need an airplane either, so please fasten your seatbelt.” Nobody had to teach Mary, the mother of Jesus about humility. When the angel Gabriel came to tell her the role God had chosen for her, she was young, poor, female, and humble. She lived in a little hick town called Nazareth. We read in Luke Chapter 1 that the angel said to her, “Mary, you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his kingdom will never end!” Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” She humbly submitted herself to God and God used her in a remarkable way. She gave birth to Jesus Christ who is today the hope of the entire world. When we humbly submit ourselves to God as Mary did, God will use us for His highest purposes.
