It explains the purpose of the job, the specific duties, what authority the person has, and to whom he reports. When the Apostle Paul wrote the book of Romans, he began by describing the job God gave him. In Romans chapter 1:1, we read, “This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach his Good News.” A little later he says, “Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.” Then he speaks about the reliability of the message God gave him to deliver. He says it is reliable because it describes the Good News God promised “long ago through his prophets in the holy Scriptures. The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life, he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.” The Apostle Paul did his job so well he could say at the end of his life, “I have finished the race.” That’s the kind of life each of us should aspire to live.
