Many years ago, Jacob had to flee from Esau his brother. Esau had vowed to kill him for cheating and deceiving him. Despite Jacob’s cheating personality, God had a plan for his life. That night as he slept, he had a dream. In it, God assured him that He would fulfill the promises He made to Abraham, his father. Here are God’s words in Genesis chapter 28: “I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.” When Jacob woke up from his sleep, he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!” God is fully present everywhere. That is both good news and bad news. It is bad news for people who think they can violate God’s righteous laws and get way with doing so. God preserves every thought, word, and deed and holds us fully liable. The good news is that God’s presence means nothing can happen to us without His awareness. He knows, He sees, and He cares. And for all who by faith accept Him into their lives, Christ forgives all their sins. He cleanses us so we can enjoy sweet fellowship with Him.
