Ancient Egyptians worshiped many gods. One was the sun god Ra. But he often took on other forms, even becoming a Pharaoh. Of course, such views of deity have no comparison to the biblical revelation of God, as we know Him. The Bible reveals that God is eternal; He created all things for His eternal purpose. After creating people, they sinned and became alienated from God. In love, God sent His only Son to redeem us. The Apostle John describes that great event when God became human in order to redeem us. Here are John’s words from his Gospel: “He came into the very world he created, but the world did not recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn — not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, His birth was the greatest event in the history of the world. Not only did He change history, He now offers eternal hope to all who would accept Him as their Savior and Lord.
