Among them is a skeletal system that allows us to stand up and move about; a digestive system that turns food into energy; a respiratory system that allows us to breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide; a circulatory system that enables the heart to pump blood that carries food for energy all over the body. Each system is amazing, but one that really astounds me is our ability to reproduce. When a male and female come together, the male provides a sperm that fertilizes the female’s egg, and a new person is born. That new human can function as the parents did. What a miracle! All this happens because in the beginning “God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.’” Genesis 2 tells us that God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While he slept, God took out one of the man’s ribs and made a woman from the rib, and brought her to the man. Genesis tells us that this is why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two unite to become one. We are not able to fathom all the details of how God created and fashioned the first man and his wife but we never cease to marvel at God’s wisdom, love, and power. And we worship and obey Him for making us who we are.
