One criterion many voters use in choosing a candidate is the person’s integrity. Can they trust them to keep their promises after they are in office? To assess a candidate’s trustworthiness, voters will often consider the person’s past—his or her roots and record. Likewise, when we invite people to entrust their lives to Jesus Christ, we invite them to consider Christ’s roots and record—as did the Apostle John. He wrote his Gospel, inviting people to believe in Jesus Christ. He began by summarizing Jesus’ roots and record (John 1:1): “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” These statements from the Apostle John identify Jesus Christ as the Word, existing from eternity, the Creator of all that exists, and the Savior of all who choose to accept Him. Jesus Christ’s credentials are impeccable–they have no flaws. He is most worthy of our trust!
