When the Romans invaded Jerusalem in 70 A.D., they killed a million Jews and took 95,000 as prisoners. They burned down the temple and Jews fled to Europe, Africa, and other safe places. According to Josephus, the historian, Jewish Christians escaped by heeding Jesus’ warning that the city would fall. They survived by fleeing to a place called Pella. It pays to listen to people who are credible. Later, the Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation from the island of Patmos. He was in exile because of his faith in Christ. After seeing and recording various visions, he validated the accuracy of his writings by saying this: “I, John, am the one who heard and saw all these things.” He said that so we would know he did not make up these visions from his imagination. They happened just as he said they did. Then in Revelation 22:12–13, he quotes Jesus as saying: “Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” The Christ who died on the cross 2,000 years ago arose from the dead. He went to heaven and says one day He will return to rule over all the earth. All those who accept Him as their Savior and live to please Him will enjoy everlasting life. We can believe it or not, but Christ will keep His promise.
