One writer says in his experience, most people who reject Christ do so for one of 6 reasons: 1) seeing Christians act badly; 2) God did not answer their prayer; 3) they grew up without a father figure; 4) they were swayed by peer pressure; 5) they think the cost of discipleship is too high; or 6) they do not want to give up their immoral lifestyle. The Apostle Paul said in fact Satan blinds the minds of many people to prevent truth of God to penetrate their hearts. On the one hand, pride drives them to live independent from God; on the other hand, Satan assists them by blinding their minds’ eyes so they cannot see the truth. As a result, truth about Jesus does not make sense. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 2, “People who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. For, ‘Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?’ But we understand these things for we have the mind of Christ.” Paul goes on to say, “The veil can be removed only by believing in Christ.” God has created us with a free will. We are free to reject His Son, or we can choose to trust Him and enjoy the wonderful benefits that God offers those who believe.
