You have probably driven down the road behind an old clunker holding up traffic, and saw a sticker on his bumper than read, “I may be slow, but I’m a head of you.” That amusing sticker sounds a lot like the man we read about in John 9. He was born blind but Jesus had healed him. The religious leaders were trying to discredit Jesus who had healed him. After they could not get his parents to deny he was born blind, they went back to the man and said, “God should get the glory for this, because we know this man Jesus is a sinner.” That is when the man told them, “I don’t know whether he is a sinner, but I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!” The man admitted he was not a theologian, but he knew what he knew. Even then, the religious leaders did not give up. “But what did he do? They asked. “How did he heal you?” “Look!” the man said, “I told you once. Didn’t you listen? Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciple, too?” Then they cursed him and threw him out of the synagogue. Some true believers are like this blind man. They cannot give you a complete explanation of God’s plan of salvation. We wish all could. Some can simply say, “I came to Jesus as I was, weary, worn, and sad. I found in him a resting place, and he has made me glad.
