Some say the account in the Bible is a made-up story to explain why humans are the way they are. Among the reasons Christians believe Adam and Eve were real people are the following: All through the Bible, writers treat them as real people. Since God gave us the Bible and He can only speak what is true, they must be real people. Jesus, who came from heaven, referred to them as real–male and female. The Apostle Paul bases his case for our salvation on the fact that Adam and Eve lived, sinned, and caused the entire human race to fall away from God. Unless Adam and Eve were real people, our need for salvation would be false. It would be based upon a myth and not reliable at all. Paul is every emphatic in saying, “When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.” He says further, “But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. The sin of this one man Adam brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.” The Bible teaches that the second Adam, Jesus Christ, rectified what the first Adam did. Some day science will catch up to what the Bible teaches.
