Before apartheid ended in South Africa, the government canceled all political rallies. One Sunday, it even sent hundreds of police to his church where Bishop Tutu was preaching. In his sermon, he spoke to the police, “You are very powerful, but you are not God. I serve a God who cannot be mocked. So since you have already lost, I invite you today to come and join the winning side.” The church erupted in dance and song. The police did not know what to do. Bishop Tutu knew that God and goodness would win over evil. Despite all the evil and persecution in the world today, God’s people know that one day “the kingdoms of the world will become the kingdom of our Lord. He will reign forever and ever.” The Apostle John spoke about this victory celebration in Revelation 19. He wrote, “I heard again what sounded like a shout of a vast crowd or the roar of mighty ocean waves or the crash of loud thunder: ‘Praise the LORD! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.’” So God’s people already know how this movie will end. That’s why our goal is to live for Christ and serve Him each day.
