No one wants to live under a wicked dictator with no way to get rid of him. All over the world, people celebrate when their leader is selected and installed. Yet a day is coming when God’s choice of a leader will not rule based on a democratic process. God’s Son will rule over heaven and earth based upon God’s choice and His Son’s perfect qualifications. Jesus Christ qualifies as the perfect Ruler because He lived a life of perfect integrity, He brought the world a perfect message from God, and He offered the perfect sacrifice on behalf of sinners when He died on the Cross. His resurrection proved that God was perfectly satisfied with His work, and therefore God appointed him to be the Ruler over heaven and earth. One day, the entire universe will celebrate Him as the worthy choice, even though they did not select Him by ballot. In anticipation of that day, the author of Psalm 47 urges us with the words, “Come everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the LORD Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth.” But we need not wait for a future celebration. We can honor Him today as our Savior and Lord.
