Yet often public defenders have so many cases, they have little time to empathize with the accused, and may have little clout with judges. As a result, the accused may not get the best outcome. But what joy it is to know that those who come to God through His Son, Jesus, have excellent representation with our holy Judge. In Hebrews chapter 7, we read: “Because Jesus lives forever, his priesthood lasts forever. … He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. He is the kind of high priest we need … he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin … set apart from sinners, and has … the highest place of honor in heaven.” Jesus, as our High Priest and representative before God, understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. That is why the writer urges us to come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
