God’s church today is composed of all true followers of Jesus Christ. Admittedly, it has problems: It’s fractured with many denominations; its members are at various stages of growth; some leaders stumble and become examples of those who fall into sin. Yet despite its faults, God has plans for the true church—those genuine followers of Christ. The Apostle Paul explains in Ephesians chapter 3 that God’s eternal plan is to use the church under the leadership of His Son, to display His wisdom “to all unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.” The church will be God’s vehicle to display Christ’s glory forever. So despite its faults today, the true church has a glorious future. Yet we must not let this future destiny rob us of serving and living for Him today. As Paul urged, we should more and more seek to experience His love and power to make a difference in our world. He says the more we experience Christ’s love, the more amazed we will become at how satisfying He is, and the more effective we will be in our service for him. Paul sums up the wonderful truth about God’s purpose for the church with a prayer for us: “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
