One of Andre Crouch’s favorite Gospel songs is this one: “How can I say thanks for the things you have done for me. Things so undeserved, yet you give to prove your love for me. The voices of a million angels cannot express my gratitude. All that I am or ever hope to be I owe it all to thee.” God wanted that attitude to be on the lips of His ancient people as they entered the Promised Land. We read in Deuteronomy Chapter 26, that God told them to bring a portion of their very first crops as an offering, and say, “With this gift I acknowledge to the LORD your God that I have entered the land he swore to our ancestors he would give us. When Egyptians oppressed and humiliated us by making us their slaves, we cried out to the LORD, the God of our ancestors. He heard our cries and saw our hardship, toil, and oppression. The LORD brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand and a powerful arm. He brought us to this place and gave us this land flowing with milk and honey! And now, O LORD, I have brought you the first portion of the harvest you have given me.” Notice: The worshiper was to recall the plight of his people, God’s gracious reply to their plight, His deliverance and blessings. Ingratitude toward God is the first step in backsliding. May we always say with Andre Crouch, “To God Be the Glory.”
