They believe if they bathe in the Ganges River during one of the festival days, they will get rid of their sins. God appointed festivals for his ancient people Israel. One of them was the Feast of Tabernacles; people lived in booths. They used the occasion to thank Yahweh, not only for their harvests, but also for other blessings. Psalm 147 tells how they thanked God for his deliverance: “Praise the Lord! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting! The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel. He heals the broken hearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension! Sing out your thanks to the Lord, sing praises to our God with a harp.” People who are truly grateful take time to praise God, the source of their blessings. They are encouraged knowing that if God counts and cares for the many stars He will surely care for them. That is why Christians all over the world gather weekly to worship God for who He is, the one who saves us by his grace. We thank Him for all the physical and spiritual blessings He bestows daily.
