A pilot tells how once he was enjoying his hang glider. A hang glider lets you glide high in the air without a motor. This pilot was 4,200 feet high. As he was coming down, suddenly he hit a blast of air that sent him hurdling toward the ground. He just knew he was going to be dead duck. But he saw a red-tail hawk six feet to his right fighting the same gust of air. He quickly decided that rather than trying to do something else, he’d better stick with the hawk. At 100 feet, the hawk began to rise in the air, and to the pilot’s surprise his glider began rising too. By humbling himself, he learned a valuable lesson. In life, we often get caught in downdrafts—situations that baffle us. If we are not careful, pride will tempt us to ignore God and use immoral tactics to survive. In such times, God invites to humble ourselves and let Him and His word be our guide. We read in Isaiah 57, “The high and lofty one who lives in eternity, the Holy One, says this: “I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. I restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts.” God’s way often seems long and contrary to human logic, but in the end, God’s way is the best way.
