A little girl stood with her mother under a shelter as rain poured down. “Let’s run in the rain,” the child said to her mother. “No, we’ll get soaked” her mother replied. “No, we won’t,” insisted the little girl. “Don’t you remember what you said this morning when you were talking to dad about his cancer? You said, ‘If God can get us through your cancer, He can get us through anything.’” With that said, the mother and daughter took off in the rain. They got soaked, yes, but they affirmed their faith in God. Like them, King David knew whom he could call on to help him deal with difficult issues. In Psalm 5, we read how he fortified himself each day as the administrator of his nation. Early each day, before he faced people, he talked to God, “O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.” David reminds himself that God is holy and just, so he must be fair in the decisions he will make during the day. If we spend time with God in the morning, we may find, like David did, that God will guide us through the day.
