Its research shows that the lack of trust costs Americans billions of dollars each year. At the same time, businesses where trust is a priority enjoy twice the revenue growth, greater productivity, greater customer loyalty, and better profits. Research shows the best way to build trust is by keeping promises. When we fail to keep our word we are telling people we don’t value them. Even breaking small promises sends the message that others can’t count on us. We are also telling them we do not value our own word, and this shows we disrespect ourselves. Our Model for making and keeping promises comes from God. We find this in Isaiah 54: God said, “Just as I swore in the time of Noah that I would never again let a flood cover the earth, so now I swear that I will never again be angry and punish you. For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken.” God’s promise to keep His word to His ancient people shows us how faithful God is. He keeps any and every promise He’s ever made. We honor God and show our trustworthiness when we keep our word.
