Like unsuspecting sheep or goats, people can be led astray if they are not careful. Knowing this is why Christ called Paul to become an apostle. In Acts chapter 26, we read what Jesus told Paul his mission would be: “I have appeared to you to appoint you as my servant and witness. You are to tell the world what you have seen and what I will show you in the future. And I will rescue you from both your own people and the Gentiles. Yes, I am sending you to the Gentiles to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. Then they will receive forgiveness for their sins and be given a place among God’s people, who are set apart by faith in me.” So as Paul or anyone shares the Good News, here is what happens: The Holy Spirit opens the inner eyes of sincere listeners so they turn from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God. If and when they repent and accept God’s Son as their Savior, God forgives them. He cancels their sin debt and adopts them into His family. In response to such an amazing makeover, they are grateful. They give their lives to promote Christ and His Kingdom agenda of justice and righteousness.
