Here are a few examples of world empires that have lasted hundreds of years. The Portuguese Empire lasted 584 years. The Ottomon Empire lasted 623 years. The Ethiopian Empire lasted 665 years. The Holy Roman Empire lasted 834 years. The Cush Empire lasted 1,420 years. And the Roman Empire lasted 1,480 years. Yet all these empires have this one thing in common. They all passed away. But we read in Scripture that the kingdom and rule of Jesus Christ will last forever. Here are just a few places where this is found. In 2 Samuel 7:13, God, speaking of King David’s line says, “Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.” Hebrews 1:8 quotes Psalm 45:6 to say of Jesus, “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever.” And Revelation 11:5 records a voice from heaven that said, “The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.” The kingdom of Christ is destined to last forever. That is why wise people choose to enter His Kingdom now by accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior, Lord, and King. That is why we aim to please Him. We know that our work for Him will not be in vain.
