People who trusted him were sadly disappointed. Years ago, the Apostle Paul spoke of trust in a different way. He spoke of the mission the Lord Jesus had entrusted to him—the trust of sharing the Gospel message to Gentiles. Despite the pain and humiliation he suffered from proclaiming this unpopular message, he never backed down. He knew the message was so valuable and he honored the Lord so highly that he dared not give up. To spur confidence in Timothy, the young man he expected to carry on after Paul’s martyrdom, he urged him to never give up, and never give in to the threats that might undermine the Gospel. In 2 Timothy chapter 1 we read, “With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time – to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.” The Apostle Paul regarded God’s gracious plan to save the world so valuable, and worthy of trust, that he dared not stop talking about it. Today, we should have the same attitude as Paul.
