Some mean don’t let others define you. Some even use it justify their own obnoxious behavior. But others use it to urge integrity, to be people who can be trusted to do right—to be trustworthy, fair, and honest –even if nobody is watching. I think that’s what our Lord was urging when he spoke the words we find in Luke chapter 16. “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?” Jesus tells us that unless we are honest in small details, we will never be honest in major areas of life. He urges us to have integrity in all we do, but especially in the way we handle money. We all know money is useful, but it can be a deceptive. It promises pleasure, power, and prestige, but it often fails to deliver what it promises. Our world desperately needs people who are honest and trustworthy. We should all aim to excel in integrity.
