They found evidence that thousands of people died in the sudden eruption. Hundreds of bodies are frozen in place doing what they were doing when the molten rock encased them. The sad part of the disaster is that they had ignored rumblings all week before the disaster came. Jesus took time to deliver the Sermon on the Mount. Here is his conclusion: “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Jesus Christ is very emphatic that He is God’s Messenger of truth, offering eternal life to those who accept Him as their Savior and Lord. We can choose to listen to Him and live, but if we ignore Him we perish.
