World War I was the war that was supposed to end all wars. In that conflict, fought between 1914 and 1918, 30 nations battled each other in Europe. Thirteen million soldiers died. Of course, it did not end all war. World War II soon followed, and some 50 million casualties was the result. Since then, we have fought in Korea, Vietnam, and now the Middle East. World peace is so elusive. While it is our task to seek peace diligently, both at home and aboard, we realize how difficult the task is. The Bible reveals that the ultimate peacemaker is the Messiah. The prophet Isaiah describes him in his book. Here is how Isaiah describes His coming: “For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen.” We believe the Prophet spoke of Jesus Christ. He appeared once to atone for sin. He will appear a second time to exercise the office of Kingship. Until then, we His followers proclaim the message of God’s love. God forgives and accepts all who receive Him as Savior and Lord. And we as His followers foster peace, justice, and righteousness.
