Day 39: Top Ten – Part 2
Tomorrow is the last day of 40 Days for Life (you can find the latest devotional here). To close out my blog, I’ll share a personal story about my personal encounter with the abortion issue.
For today, here’s the rest of my abortion top ten:
10. If you’ve never seen what an abortion looks like, I strongly recommend you take a look. I can almost guarantee that if you are on the fence about where you stand, once you see it, you’ll never be the same again. This site shows what abortion is and what it does.
9. If you’ve ever felt like pro-life people just rely on emotionalism and exaggeration to support their positions, I encourage you to take a look at Randy Alcorn’s book, Why Pro-Life?, a very well-reasoned and thoughtful apologetic for the pro-life stance.
8. I heard a very enlightening comment yesterday about the effect of abortion on men. The speaker remarked that many men have problems in their marriage because their wife is post-abortive and doesn’t know how to cope with the aftermath. They need help, too.
7. Politicians have really messed up the abortion debate. They keep people focused on rhetoric and distracted from the very personal ways in which abortions devastate families. I do everything I can to steer my discussions with people away from political topics.
6. There is not one single major Black women’s group that takes a pro-life stand. This includes the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the National Council of Negro Women, and the African-American sororities.
5. A friend told me last week of a Black teenage boy who was on suicide watch for two days after his girlfriend had an abortion. The havoc wrought on our kids is real.
4. Many pastor’s wives are post-abortive. Their shame and guilt is overwhelming. Could this explain why it’s so difficult to enlist Black pastors’ help to defend life? My good friend Mary Comm has a wonderful ministry called In Our Midst which helps churches bring abortion out into the open and minister to its post-abortive members.
3. A great website to get news from a pro-life perspective is Lifenews.com.
2. More African-Americans have been killed by abortion than from AIDS, cancer, heart disease, and homicide combined.
1. The birth rate for African Americans is now below replacement rate which means we are a dying group. Hispanics are now the dominant majority in this country.
