Embracing Life -- Day 25

Day 25: Hope Keeps Alive

It’s a basic understanding of the Christian faith that what we petition God for in prayer might not manifest in the way or at the time that we anticipate or desire. But He always answers according to His will. It is the hope of His people in His goodness, His faithfulness, and His ability to provide what is being requested that keeps babies alive.

I remember the story of a baby in Dayton whose Black teenage mother gave birth to him in her bathtub after hiding her pregnancy from her parents. No doubt driven by stark fear, and a range of other emotions, she tried to continue her concealment by putting the baby in a plastic food storage container. Probably assuming the child was dead, she went ahead and called an ambulance because she was bleeding heavily. The paramedics took the Tupperware-like container to the hospital with the mother. The hospital staff provided no care or even inquired about the status of this child. The child, still inside the dish, was discovered some time later–very much alive!!

That child is alive and well today. People ask why do all this 40 days stuff? Do you ever know for sure that any of those children are saved from abortion? Whether any of the babies whose mothers enter and exit the clinic while prayer is being offered tell us they changed their mind is immaterial. We hold hope that God hears us, and when we learn of babies like the one whose story I told here, we know He does.
