In recent years, megachurches have sprung up, giving people the option of whether they prefer large or small places of worship. I hope that whichever you choose, you keep the focus on the majesty of God, and you leave with the desire and the determination to do His will. Revelation 21 informs us that in the coming New Jerusalem, there will be no Temple or specific place of worship. Here is what John saw in vision form and wrote, “I saw no temple in the city, For the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.” The presence of God will so permeate the eternal city that a place of worship will be unnecessary. John goes onto say that the city had no need of the sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city; and the Lamb is its light. Its gates will never close at the end of the day because there is no night there. Why do Christians look forward to this future city? Just as athletes tolerate the discipline of working out preparing for the joy of playing in the real competition, so God’s people work out faithfully in this present age. They share the Good News of the Gospel. They live to please God. They stand up for justice and righteousness. They know that one day they will enter that eternal city. They will see the Lord Jesus whom they served while on earth. The joy they will have then will not be for just a lifetime. That joy will last forever.
