Even though Dr. Billy Graham had his critics, most people considered him a man of integrity. One reporter described him as “the evangelist who did not rip off millions, run with prostitutes, build a mega church, run for president, or run a Christian political lobby.” His integrity led millions of people to accept Jesus Christ and live by His teachings. People like Dr. Graham, the late Dr. Gardner Taylor, and similar men with integrity are what our world desperately needs today. Long ago, the absence of godly leaders brought strong condemnation by the prophet Hosea. In chapter 4 we read, “Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel! The LORD has brought charges against you, saying: ‘There is no faithfulness, no kindness, no knowledge of God in your land. You make vows and break them; you kill and steal and commit adultery. There is violence everywhere—one murder after another. That is why your land is in mourning, and everyone is wasting away.’” God also said, “My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me. … Since you have forgotten the laws of your God, I will forget to bless your children.” Today, when leaders fail to lead with integrity and people ignore God’s moral principles, God withholds His blessings, and we reap the sad outcomes of our moral failures.
