Forbes magazine wrote a story about a company that hired down-and outers—people society often dismisses as losers. The company says it does it to give people hope. That’s also what God did for ancient Israel and for us. As Israel neared the end of the 70-year exile, many thought God had abandoned them. To inspire and assure them that he still loved them and had the power to change their condition, God sent them a message of hope by the prophet Isaiah Chapter 41: “But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from Abraham my friend, I have called you back from the ends of the earth, saying, ‘You are my servant.’ For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” God also has a good word for us, His children today, found in Hebrews 13:5 “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” With an unbreakable promise like that, people in the family of God can live with confidence.
