When judges are about to sentence criminals, they may sometimes take into account the motive of the offender–if they can determine the motive. But discovering a person’s motive is not always easy. Such inner drives originate deep inside of us, and others cannot easily discern them. That is not true with God. The Bible informs us that God knows everything, even our most secret thoughts. We read in Proverbs 15, “Even death and destruction hold no secrets from the LORD. How much more does he know the human heart!” Hebrews 4:12 tells us that the Word of God exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.” Psalm 33: 13: “The LORD looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. From his throne, he observes all who live on the earth. He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do.” Not only does God know everything that goes on here on earth and in our hearts, God is at work causing His plans to succeed, even when they do not appear to be succeeding. Realizing that God knows and controls all that transpires here on earth gives God’s people confidence. We can have peace in the midst of the economic and social upheavals. We know that God loves and cares for His own people.
